Clean energy is reshaping New York's buildings, and the people trained to do that work are in demand right now.

The Green Innovation Accelerator (GIA) is a free program from Cambio Labs that prepares NYCHA residents and Section 3 or 8  Voucher Holders for careers in the city's fastest-growing green sectors and connects them directly to employers and apprenticeship pathways.

WHAT IS the Green Innovation AcCelerator?

The Green Innovation Accelerator is a free training program built for NYCHA residents and Section 3 or 8 Voucher Holders who want a career in green trades. Over eight Saturday sessions, you get hands-on training in the track of your choice, career support, and direct connections to employers and registered apprenticeships. The program is based at Mott Haven Houses in the South Bronx, and the jobs it leads to are citywide.

No experience required. Must be a NYCHA resident.

Building Electrification and Heat Pumps

Learn how buildings are moving off gas and oil to electric heating and cooling.
Covers heat pump systems, controls, and the electrical basics behind building electrification, the work driving Clean Heat for All and Local Law 97 across the city.

Learn how solar systems are designed and installed, from rooftop arrays to green building practices.
Covers panel systems, array sizing basics, and the construction skills behind the city's solar and clean-build projects

Energy Efficiency and Weatherization

Learn how buildings are made to use less energy through insulation, air sealing, and efficiency upgrades. Covers weatherization methods, building diagnostics, and the efficiency work that lowers costs and emissions across NYC housing.

HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS

  • Eight Saturday sessions,10:00 AM to 2:00 PM:

    • Session 1 — October 3: Program Orientation & Green Economy Foundations
      Session 2 — October 17: Energy Efficiency & Weatherization
      Session 3 — October 24: Building Electrification & Heat Pumps
      Session 4 — November 7: Solar PV & Green Construction
      Session 5 — November 14: Apprenticeship Pathways & Employer Connections
      Session 6 — November 21: Capstone Prep & Employment Readiness
      Pitch Day — December 5, 2026
      Sessions 10:00 AM–2:00 PM at Mott Haven Houses.

  • Closes with Pitch Day on December 5th, 2026

  • Location: Mott Haven Houses, South Bronx
