ABOUT START UP NYCHA
Empowering Entrepreneurs, Driving Impact, and Creating Opportunities

Why NYCHA?
8 Weeks to Launch
Residents of the New York City Housing Authority are underserved and face many local, social, and environmental problems. To alleviate this, youth aged 15-18 will learn social entrepreneurial skills to tackle these issues, through employment opportunities, mentorship, coaching, and funding.
WHAT WE DO
Prerequisites
We are creating access to entrepreneurial education and resources, so that NYCHA residents can launch their own companies, gain access to employment and internship opportunities, and launch community-based projects that can also solve local social and environmental problems.
Develop Your Business Competencies
Develop competencies that can help students gain employment or launch their own businesses.
Build Social Capital
Participants increase their social capital by being mentored and coached by professionals in finance, technology, entrepreneurship, and more.
Internship Opportunity
The program helps students standout on their resumes and program graduates will be connected to paid internship opportunities.
Creating Training and Employment Opportunity
There will be opportunities of training and employment for instructors.
HOW START UP NYCHA WORKS
Solve local social issues and launch real businesses in our 12-week pilot program
Our proposal is to run a 12-week pilot program at Fulton Houses from 2023-2024 in partnership with Miguel Acevedo and the Tenant Association. This pilot program will target NYCHA youth (15-18 years old), and during the course, student entrepreneurs will form teams, analyze local social issues, and launch real businesses that can both generate wealth and address local community needs.
